Yangzhou: Thousand foreigners to feel charm of the Great Canal

  A welcoming ceremony for the activity-Thousand International Friends Touring the Great Canal hosted by Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and Yangzhou Municipal Peoples Government was held in Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province on the evening of April 13. International friends from the United States, Russia and other countries would know and feel the Grand Canal by themselves through their visits in Yangzhou.

  The 1st Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo will be held in May this year in Yangzhou, the birthplace of the Grand Canal and the leading city for applying for the world heritage site of the Grand Canal. The activity of Thousand International Friends Touring the Great Canal is an important part of the expo. The organizers hope that more international friends could get involved in this expo to understand and feel the Grand Canal by themselves.

  Nearly 1,000 international friends from more than 50 countries and regions including the United States, Russia, France and Germany would visit Suzhou, Huai 'an, Yangzhou, Zhenjiang and other cities along the Grand Canal in batches. Some of the international friends came to Yangzhou Saturday and highly praised the profound cultures of Yangzhou. They said that they would spare no effort to promote Yangzhou and help Yangzhou become a famous international cultural tourism city.

  There are 10 world heritage sites in the Yangzhou section of the Grand Canal, including Geyuan Garden and Slender West Lake. With the highest utilization rate of living heritage, Yangzhou has 3 world-class intangible cultural heritages, 19 national intangible cultural heritages, and more than 200 provincial, municipal and county-level intangible cultural heritages.

  During The 1st Grand Canal Cultural Tourism Expo, Yangzhou will also hold exhibition on tourism of international canal city, performance of intangible cultural heritage, gourmet carnival, fine arts exhibition, and the Grand Canal industrial investment cooperation forum and etc.
