East China’s Jiangsu province has wrapped up the construction of pollutant treatment facilities for inland river vessels in a bid to strengthen the environmental management of inland waters and improve the ability to receive and dispose of ship pollutants.
Up to now, 3,275 sets of ship garbage receiving facilities have been installed in the inland ports across the province in addition to the construction of 1057 sets of domestic sewage receiving facilities, 17 collection barrels, 1014 sets of oil and sewage receiving facilities, and 27 sets of chemical washing water receiving facilities. The province has wrapped up the construction of the receiving, transshipment and disposal facilities for ship pollutants along the Yangtze River.
At the same time, the maritime departments across the province have strengthened law enforcement. Zhenjiang took the lead in issuing local laws and regulations in the province, encouraging all the residents to participate in the prevention and control of inland river pollution.
The Yangzhou Local Maritime Safety Administration, in conjunction with the local quality inspection office, conducts sampling inspections of the transportation fuels of the Yangzhou section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal from time to time. Once the use of inferior fuel is found, not only the ship mainly accepts administrative penalties, but also the problem ships will be recorded on the "blacklist".
Authorities in Jiangyin use the "Internet +" to establish a system of electronic pollutants for ship pollutants, realizing seamless monitoring of the whole process of receiving, transshipment and disposal of ship pollutants.
It is estimated that by 2020, 100% of the inland ports will be built with water pollution prevention facilities with the capacity compliance rate reaching 100% and the existing ships in the inland rivers along the Yangtze River will be upgraded.
