Drawing Comics for Students’ Evaluation – A teacher’s endeavor for hearing-impaired children

  Yu Xiaolan, a headmasterin Nanjing School for the Hearing-Impaired, prepared the students’ evaluation with the form of comics.

  She drew her expectations of each child in the comics: “I think it will make my ‘preaching’ more acceptable by drawing comics to them."

  Apart from the comics, Yu Xiaolan came up with a lot of new teaching methods. The first semester isteaching idioms, The second semester is teaching famous sentences. Afterwards there are the keyword interaction and ancient poems.

  “Key Words Interaction means that the students provide the keyword, and I write a sentence according to the keyword. Actually this is a way of communicating.I can know what they’re thinking by doing this,” said Yu.

  Throughout these years of teaching hearing-impaired children, Yu Xiaolan has always encouraged her students to “speak out” all the time.

  “They have trouble in hearing, but there's nothing wrong with their voice. You can't give up just because they didn’t speak fluently. Many years later, when I recall my students, they must have had a voice in my head,” said Yu.
