A report released by the provincial department of nature and environmental protection shows that air quality in Jiangsu was improved on the whole last year.

In 2018, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 in prefecture-level cities of the province was 48 micrograms per cubic meter, down 2% year-on-year, exceeding the national assessment target.

The average annual concentration of PM2.5 in 53 counties, county level cities or districts was 43 micrograms, down 2.3% year-on-year.

Top on the list are Rudong, Qidong, Haimen, Kunshan and Xuyi while Xinyi, Suining, Peixian, Jiangyin and Jiangdu are at the end of the list.

The reasons for the poor air quality in some areas are mainly related to poor overall atmospheric diffusion conditions, inadequate dust control, and energy-intensive industrial structure.
