East China’s Jiangsu province held a memorial ceremony Wednesday morning in Xuzhou city to mark the 70th anniversary of the Huaihai Campaign.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, delivered a speech at the ceremony, emphasizing that the province should hold high the great banner of Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, draw on the strength of the Huaihai Campaign spirit, and resolutely win the battle of promoting high-quality development and building a comprehensively well-off society so as to greet the 70th anniversary of the founding of New China with new achievements.
The square in front of the Huaihai Campaign Martyrs Memorial Tower appeared serious and solemn. Under the shadow of the pines and cypresses, the martyrs memorial tower looked towering against the nine brilliant Chinese characters Huaihai Battle Martyrs Memorial Tower" inscribed by Comrade Mao Zedong.
More than 700 representatives from all walks of life lined up in front of the Martyrs Memorial Tower. 14 guards of honor of the People's Liberation Army walked into the front of the platform of the Martyrs Memorial Tower.
At 11 am, the ceremony of presenting flower basket began. The military band played the national anthem the "March of the Volunteers", and representatives from all walks of life sang the national anthem in chorus.
Everyone stood solemnly and silently, mourning the revolutionary martyrs of the Huaihai Campaign. Along with the military band playing the flower presenting song, 16 well-trained guards of honor held up eight flower baskets contributed by representatives from all walks of life, including the party, government, and military groups. They slowly moved toward the Martyrs Memorial Tower and dedicated the flower baskets to the revolutionary martyrs.
On behalf of the provincial party committee and the provincial government, Lou Qinjian expressed his infinite nostalgia to the older generation of revolutionaries who led and commanded the Huaihai Campaign. He expressed deep condolences to the glorious revolutionary martyrs and paid high respect to all the veterans who participated in the Huaihai Campaign and the people of the revolutionary bases in the war between 1945 and 1949.
The CPC Provincial Chief emphasized that we must keep in mind the glorious history of the party, inherit and carry forward the great spirit of the Huaihai Campaign, and inject great kinetic energy into promoting high-quality development.
He also urged the province to inherit and carry forward the glorious tradition of being absolute loyalty to the Party, adhering to the guidance of Xi Jinping's new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics, safeguarding the core position of General Secretary Xi Jinping, safeguarding the Party's central authority and centralized and unified leadership, in particular resolutely implementing the General Secretary’s instructions for the work of Jiangsu to ensure that the central decision-making deployment takes root in Jiangsu.
