An inaugural forum on cultural tradition was held in Wuxi city on Monday. The event was sponsored by Guangming Daily, the Publicity Department of Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee and Wuxi Municipal Party Committee.
In his written instructions for the forum, Lou Qinjian, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, pointed out that the Jiangnan culture is an important integral part of the Chinese culture.
As an important place of the Jiangnan culture in history, Jiangsu should consciously assume the mission of inheriting the development of Jiangnan culture in the new era by actively implementing the research of the Jiangnan cultural tradition, strengthening the mining and elucidation of Jiangnan cultural context, promoting creative transformation and innovative development of the Jiangnan culture so as to make Jiangnan culture an icon of the Jiangsu cultural identity, realize high quality of cultural construction in the province and make new and greater contributions to the prosperity of socialist culture, the CPC Provincial chief said.
Nearly 300 well-known scholars from relevant research fields at home and abroad and experts and scholars who participated in the research of the Jiangnan cultural tradition attended the forum that was themed on Inheritance of Culture and Spiritual Homeland. They discussed the inheritance and development of Jiangnan culture to demonstrate its historical value and contemporary significance.
Li Xiaomin, secretary of the Wuxi municipal CPC committee, extended his warm welcome to the leaders and guests. He said that Wuxi will take advantage of the first Jiangnan Cultural Tradition Forum to comprehensively implement the spirit of a series of important instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on the promotion of cultural construction in accordance with the provincial committee's high-quality deployment requirements for cultural construction so as to make Wuxi a famous city of Jiangnan cultural tradition in harmony with the development of modern civilization that reflects the economic and social development and highlights the unique cultural charm of Wuxi in the new era.
Wang Yanwen, head of the publicity department of the Jiangsu Provincial Party Committee, pointed out that Jiangnan is an important birthplace of the Chinese civilization, an important region for the inheritance of the Chinese culture, a pivotal hub for the integration of the northern and southern culture, a poetic habitat for a better life, and a key starting point for the Jiangnan culture to make inroads into the global context. She demanded that more efforts should be made for further refinement and display of the essence of the Jiangnan culture so as to better spread and displayg the image of the Jiangnan culture.
