The Jiangsu Research Institute of China Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy was established in Nanjing Tuesday morning, marking the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Jiangsu Province.
The institute is jointly established by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Jiangsu Provincial Government.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Wu Zhenglong, Governor of Jiangsu, Li Xiaohong, President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Zhou Ji, Honorary Chairman of the Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the inaugural ceremony.
On behalf of the provincial party committee and the provincial government, Lou Qinjian expressed his congratulations on the establishment of the Jiangsu Research Institute of China Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy and his gratitude to the Chinese Academy of Engineering for its long-term support for Jiangsu's economic and social development.
He noted that General Secretary Xi Jinping put forward the grand goal of building China into a world science and technology power and a major science center and innovative highland of the world by repeatedly stressing the importance of giving full play to the role of academicians so as to conduct forward-looking, targeted and reserve strategic research for scientific decision-making and contribute more wisdom and strength to the governance of modernization.
The establishment of the Jiangsu Research Institute is a concrete action of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Jiangsu Province to implement the Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for the new era, he said, adding that the wisdom of the Academy of Engineering and the deep integration of Jiangsu's development will surely lead to a more brilliant innovation in the new era.
Lou Qinjian emphasized that strengthening strategic research in engineering science and technology is an urgent need for the promotion of innovation and high quality development in Jiangsu.
The CPC Provincial Chief hoped that the Jiangsu Research Institute will fully rely on the province’s real economic foundation, coordinate the science and education resources inside and outside the province, participate in the major national science and technology projects, play its due role in building an independent and controllable industrial system, and help the province to strengthen the top-down design of engineering technology development and strategic guidance so as to better grasp the historic opportunities of technological change.
Lou Qinjian said that the Jiangsu Research Institute is a new experimental field and responsibility field for the integration of scientific and technological innovation and economic development, adding that Jiangsu will fully support the development of the Jiangsu Research Institute and create a good research environment for academicians so as to work together with the Chinese Academy of Engineering for the Jiangsu Research Institute to bear fruits.
Li Xiaohong pointed out that General Secretary Xi Jinping's important exposition on the construction of think tanks and the latest requirements for the work of Jiangsu provided a guide for action and important follow-up for the construction of Jiangsu Research Institute.
Li Xiaohong emphasized that the vitality of Jiangsu Research Institute lies in the transformation and application of consultancy suggestions for policy-making, so it is important to ensure that the research results are geared towards the central government's major deployment, meet the actual needs of Jiangsu, and promote the integration of the results into the society, the industry, and the development process.
Zhou Ji and Wu Zhenglong will serve as joint directors of the board of the Jiangsu Research Institute. Zhou and Wu presented the letters of appointment to the president, executive president and chairman of the academic board.
He Huawu, deputy dean of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Ma Qiulin, vice governor of Jiangsu, signed a framework agreement for the Jiangsu Research Institute of China Engineering Science and Technology Development Strategy.
