The ground-breaking ceremony of Jiangsu headquarters of China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba kicked off in Jianye District of Nanjing City on Oct. 12.

Covering an area of 14 hectares, the complex is adjacent to Hexi Tram Line 1, Metro Line 7 and Metro Line S3 Transfer Station, and close to the city’s modern service zones such as Hexi Central Business District, Youth Olympic Village and Nanjing International Youth Culture Center.

The project involves a total investment of 8.1 billion yuan ($1.1 billion), with the first phase to be completed in September 2023 and office space for 30,000 people. It will become an Internet industry community based on intelligent architecture, providing strong support to Alibaba's localization and industrial chain development.

The building will be home to Alibaba’s various units, such as Aliyun (Alibaba Cloud), e-commerce training arm Taobao University, and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, and achieve online and offline industrial integration among Taobao.com, Tmall.com and Ant Financial.
