The Provincial Sports Bureau recently announced the results of the national physique monitoring in 2017. The results show that the overall physical fitness of the province's residents has improved slightly, but some indicators such as the obesity rate among adults and elderly men has continued to be on the high side.

This physique monitoring targets children, adults and the elderly except for young students with an effective sample size of more than 40,000. The monitoring results show that the overall physical fitness of the residents in the province has increased slightly. In 2017, the overall compliance rate of the sampled population in the province was 92.3%, which was 0.2 percentage points higher than that in 2014.

The monitoring shows that the indicators reflecting the physical development level of children, such as height and weight, showed an upward trend. The other indicators remained unchanged or decreased slightly, especially the balance ability in terms of the physical quality indicators. The balance ability has shown a downward trend for three consecutive years. Experts remind that unstable walking, failure to jump on one foot, and concentration absence is the major indicators of balance dysfunction.

The monitoring results show that obesity is still worthy of attention. The results of this monitoring show that the obesity rate of male adults and the elderly is on the rise, while the obesity rate of female elderly has been effectively controlled.

In the meantime, the physical fitness indicators of the elderly have improved, but the physical function indicators have declined. Experts remind that the elderly should not be sedentary at home, and proper exercise can effectively improve heart and lung function and muscle tension.
