The travel rush for the National Day holiday begins on Friday and will last until October 7th, the China Railway Corporation said Thursday.
The railway authority in Beijing is expected to send off 11.68 million passengers during the National Day holiday, averaging 116800 per day. The peak travel will come on October 1st with 1.43 million passengers to be sent off via the rail. 23 pairs of trains, including 8 pairs of high-speed trains, will be added to the fleet.
The Shanghai Railway Corp is expected to send off 3 million passengers on October 1st while temporary trains will be added to head for destinations that include Nanchang, Huaihua, Jiayuguan, Zhengzhou, Nanjing, Changzhou and Hangzhou.
With the increase in new routes, especially high-speed rails, the daily passenger flow of the railway during the National Day holiday will hit a record high. In order to ensure the safety of passengers, many railway departments will take measures to eliminate hidden dangers in advance through cooperation with power supply, communication, security inspection and other authorities.
China’s National Day is celebrated on October 1st every year to commemorate the founding of People’s Republic of China. Generally the National Day holiday is fixed at October 1–7 with adjacent weekend days being mandatory workdays to make up for lost time. The National Day "golden week holiday" is the biggest week for tourism in China as people have a week off to reunite with families and take trips.
