East China’s Jiangsu province has made headway in the implementation of the paired assistance program in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region over the past two decades by sending more than 1700 officials and technical professionals to help with the social and economic development.
In the Nantong Experimental School in Yining County, Xinjiang, minority students are studying the general language course. This is a nine-year school funded by the Nantong Municipal Office for Paired Assistance in Xinjiang. The school hardware is of the first class even if it is installed in the eastern developed regions.
Each year, the school introduces 100 outstanding teachers from Nantong for a one-month teaching stint in Yining so as to bring quality education resources there.
In Cocodala City where the city of Zhenjiang from Jiangsu is assigned to provide educational assistance, some 200 teachers from Zhenjiang have been working at the local schools.
In the meantime, Jiangsu has reached out to the people in Xinjiang through vocational education. Under the leadership of Ding Lidong, a vocational education expert from Jiangsu, the Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture Vocational and Technical School has offered specialty courses such as folk crafts production by combining with the local ethnic traditional culture. Various vocational schools in Jiangsu have sent teachers to support and train 1,200 graduates per year. The employment rate of graduates in technical engineering reached 97%, which has provided the talent pool for various industries in Kizilsu.
Since the launch of the ninth round of paired assistance program in Xinjiang, the officials and technical professionals from Jiangsu have exerted their utmost efforts to implement the cadre quality improvement project and the priority development strategy for talents in a bid to build a permanent talent team for Xinjiang. In 2017, Jiangsu trained 94,200 and 3065 officials and talents in Ili Prefecture and Kizilsu Kirghiz Autonomous Prefecture while more than 5,500 technical personnel were trained in total.
