The first ever shield machine designed and manufactured by local enterprises in Nantong was successfully assembled and commissioned and rolled off the line, marking the official entry of Nantong Rail Transit Line 1 into the tunnel construction stage. The city’s subway system is expected to be put into trial operation in 2022.
The first shield machine of Nantong Rail Transit, with a diameter of 6.4 meters, a length of 85 meters and a weight of 450 tons, is locally manufactured by Nantong. According to the geological conditions of Nantong, engineers and technicians adjusted a number of indicators of the shield machine to improve the efficiency of excavation.
According to the plan, the first shield machine will start to dig tunnels at the construction site in late October. Beginning in November, Nantong Rail Transit Line 1 will enter the tunnel construction phase of the tunnel.
The first phase of the Nantong Rail Transit Line 1 project has a total length of 39.182 KM and 28 stations. Up to now, 14 underground static walls have been closed.
Nantong will also start the earthwork for its Rail Transit Line 2.
