Jiangsu girl claims US Open junior singles title

  Wang Xiyu of Jiangsu Province has claimed the girls' singles title at the US Open Junior Tennis Championships held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City.

  Wang Xiyu and Wang Xinyu teamed to win the Wimbledon doubles title in July, the first Junior Grand Slam victory by Chinese youths, after beating a team from the United States 6-2, 6-1.

  Wang Xiyu was born in a sports family in Taixing city, Jiangsu province on March 28, 2001, with her mother a javelin athlete and her grandfather a speed skater. She has been playing tennis since she was four years old.

  With the support of her family, Wang Xiyu has insisted on studying and playing tennis, using the spare time to train and participate in competitions during winter and summer vacations. At 12, she was sponsored and came to Beijing for professional tennis training.

  It was her last time to compete in the US Open Junior Tennis Championships as she is eager to prove herself in the professional arena. Starting next year, Wang will gradually take on the WTA tour and aim for higher goals.
