Former British Prime Minister David Cameroon delivered a keynote speech at the 2018 Yancheng Green Smart Energy Conference that opened on Sept 6, the highest-level and most influential international meeting ever held in the city in Jiangsu Province.
Big wigs from home and abroad discussed the prospect of green and smart energy, Yancheng’s efforts in establishing an industry chain of new energy, and the city’s goal to be a role model in this aspect.
After tapping into the new energy industry in 2005, Yancheng has ascended to rank first in Jiangsu in terms of installed capacity and power generation of new energy.
As of the first half of this year, the city's installed capacity reached 5.973 million kilowatts, accounting for 29 percent of the province's total.
The total power generation of new energy accounted for 34 percent of the province's total. Meanwhile, the city’s photovoltaic industry is developing rapidly.
Experts said that building a smart energy demonstration city will help promote the development of the smart energy industry and create a “clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient” energy system centered on renewable energy.
It will also lead the development of emerging industries, such as Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, electric vehicles and energy storage.
A series of projects, with a total investment of about 14.8 billion yuan, were also signed at the meeting.
