The city of Nanjing will install or upgrade 310 toilets this year on the basis of the 799 toilets installed or upgraded last year by echoing the nationwide "toilet revolution."
On the east side of the Zidong International Creative Park in Qixia District, Nanjing, a building looks quite exquisite in the exterior. At first glance, it is hard to imagine that this is nothing but a public toilet. The toilet is built with environmentally friendly materials with the floors and walls made of clear water concrete rather than covered with floor tiles or wall tiles. The family toilet is divided into three functional areas: the maternal and child room, the child's toilet room and the disabled person's toilet room. The toilet is equipped with hand dryers and hair dryers. This is one of the 799 public toilets installed or upgraded in Nanjing last year.
310 toilets will be installed or upgraded across Nanjing this year. 85 will be located in the urban areas and 225 in the rural areas.
By the end of 2020, the city is expected to have 3-4 public toilets for every 10000 persons in the urban areas with one toilet installed within 15 minutes’ walk. 1350 rural toilets will be upgraded with at least two toilets installed for one community or administrative village.
