Suzhou residents will be able to reach Shanghai easily by urban rail transit upon the completion of a newly approved line.
The Line S1, linking Suzhou and Kunshan in Jiangsu to Shanghai, is one of the four projects listed in Suzhou Urban Rail Transit Phase III Construction Plan (2018-2023), which won approval from the National Development and Reform Commission on Aug 14.
The other three projects also given the go-ahead are Line 6, Line 7 and Line 8. With a total investment of about 95 billion yuan, the four lines will measure 137 km in length upon completion, increasing the total mileage of Suzhou’s rail transit to 347 km.
Suzhou plans to start the construction of Line 6 and Line S1 at the end of 2018, Line 7 and Line 8 in 2019. It is expected to complete the construction of all four lines by 2024.
