The added value of the service industry in Nanjing has seen faster growth since last year to achieve the first place in Jiangsu, while for many years it just ranked in the middle.
From January to June this year, Nanjing's service industry realized an added value of 374.59 billion yuan ($54.4 billion), a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent and the highest growth rate in Jiangsu.
The service industry now accounted for 60.4 percent of Nanjing’s GDP, contributing 69.1 percent of the city’s growth rate and driving the economic growth up by 5.6 percentage points.
In the first half of the year, Nanjing achieved a total retail sales of consumer goods at 285.059 billion yuan, the largest in Jiangsu and 17.5 percent of the province's total or 30.4 percent of the total in southern Jiangsu. The year-on-year growth rate was 9.4 percent, and the contribution rate to the province reached 17.8 percent.
At present, Nanjing has been approved as a pilot city to conduct innovative development of service trade and build a comprehensive test zone of cross-border e-commerce.
