Suzhou section of Yanjiang Express Way
Under an expressway expansion plan, Jiangsu will soon have its first two-way, 10-lane highway, the widest in the eastern province.
The province will widen the S38 Yanjiang (Along the Yangtze River) Highway next year, upgrading the section connecting Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge and Taicang from 6 lanes to 10 lanes.
Linking three cities of Suzhou, Wuxi and Changzhou in southern Jiangsu, the highway plays an important role in transportation and serves as the economic lifeline for the regions along the Yangtze River, according to the plan.
The highway has been increasingly worn out by the rising traffic volume and the intensive crushing of the large number of heavy-duty trucks, which dampens the road performance and lowers the service quality. The highway is in urgent need for expansion and transformation, so as to improve its capacity and service level.
The project is scheduled to start in December 2019 and complete in May 2023. The project, upon completion, will greatly address the current congestion on the Suzhou-Nantong Yangtze River Bridge for vehicles towards Shanghai and Nanjing and improve transportation efficiency.
