Four macaw babies were successfully hatched in the Yancheng Wildlife World of Changzhou. Macaws share same color irrespective of their genders, making it difficult to distinguish them from their appearances. Their estrus period lasts one month per year, making it difficult for artificial breeding to succeed. In the high-yielding month, the park sorted out several grownup macaws, and kept them in a quiet environment for observation. It was not long before two pairs of macaws began to mate and gave birth to four babies, which is rare in the zoos across the country. Macaws are long-tailed, often colorful New World parrots. They are native to Central America and Mexico, South America, and formerly the Caribbean. Most species are associated with forests, especially rainforests, but others prefer woodland or savannah-like habitats. There are 19 species of macaws, including extinct and critically endangered species. In addition, there are several hypothetical extinct species that have been proposed based on very little evidence.
