Some 1000 overseas youth of Chinese descendants from across the world gathered in Jiangsu for a root-seeking summer camp by visiting local schools, experiencing the historical and cultural legacy and the Chinese people’s great expectations for a better future.


Shang Qiutong, who comes from Ireland, has found her first visit to Jiangsu rewarding. This is also her first visit to the city of Taizhou, the hometown of Peking opera master Mei Lanfang. Keenly interested in the Chinese culture, she took the trouble to pay a special visit to the Mei Lanfang Park.
The 58 overseas youth of Chinese descendants joining the summer camp in Taizhou come from the USA, Germany, Spain, Ireland and UAE.

They will continue their visit in Taizhou to tour around the urban scenic sites and enjoy the folklore performances.

Some other 90 overseas youth of Chinese descendants took part in the summer camp in Suzhou where they experiences the Grand Canal culture, the Kunqu opera and other traditional cultural projects. Liu Meifeng, an 18-year-old from the USA, visited Suzhou for the first time.
74 overseas youth of Chinese descendants went to Zhenjiang city where they experienced the Grand Canal culture, learn to sing Peking opera and write Chinese calligraphy.
