On July 25, the first shipment of shield segments made by China Communications 2nd Navigational Bureau 3rd Engineering in Zhenjiang city started their way to Bangladesh after passing the acceptance inspection.
These products will be used specifically for the construction of the tunnel beneath Bangladesh's Karnaphuli River when they arrived in the country about 20 days later. This is the first time to produce large-diameter shield segments used for underwater tunnels in Zhenjiang's precast concrete sector. It is also the first time for concrete products made by Chinese standards to enter foreign markets, a milestone in Zhenjiang too.
The Karnaphuli River tunnel project is an important link in the China- Bangladesh -India-Myanmar Economic Corridor. It is also the first underwater road tunnel project with the design and construction undertaken by the engineering contractor, which is actively responding to the country’s “Belt and Road” initiative.
From design to construction, the project is fully in line with China's standards, so this project is also a milestone to introduce the Chinese standards to the world.
