The final of the 2018 Shared Joy in Jiangsu Chinese Speech Contest was held in Nanjing of Jiangsu province on June 20. Thirteen contestants from 11 countries showed their talents and knowledge about Chinese language and culture at the final stage.

Competitors shared their Jiangsu stories from various perspectives. Elisa from Italy was so worried about life and food in China, but four month later, she even put on some weight because the food here is so delicious. Jared from America can speak at least four Chinese dialects, and he aims to contribute more to Chinese dialect protection and promotion.

After three rounds of competitions, namely free speech, word puzzle, and stage play, Max from Australia and Guo Shengjie from Malaysia won the first prizes. Katrina from Ukraine was awarded the popularity prize through online voting. A series of singing and dancing performances also added a touch of glamour to the final.

Initiated in March, this year’s Chinese speech contest attracts over hundreds of international participants across Jiangsu. Having been held successfully for six years, The Shared Joy in Jiangsu Chinese Speech Contest is part of the “Shared Joy in Jiangsu” series, which also features talent shows, jazz festivals and cultural trips to promote the province’s diversification and internationalization.
