The patient, a 70-year-old woman with cervical cancer, had complex health conditions and required diagnosis from multidisciplinary perspectives to determine the therapy.

Chen said that IBM’s Watson computer system can help provide a comprehensive, standardized and precise treatment plan based on the patient's health condition and progress. Patients can not only get the world's top medical services but also participate in the communication and formulation of therapy, according to Chen.

Nanjing First Hospital is the first in Jiangsu Province to introduce the intelligent Watson system for tumor therapy. Currently, it has provided authoritative and standardized treatments for more than 500 patients that involved a total of 13 types of cancers including gastric cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, and cervical cancer.
