Railway construction in east China’s Jiangsu province has got off to a flying start since the beginning of this year by following the requirements for high-quality development.

Construction on ten railways is in progress with the total mileage adding up to 1433 kilometers.

42 billion yuan is to be injected into the province’s railway construction projects this year. 9 billion yuan had been materialized as of the end of April, accounting for 21% of the annual targets.

The new railways will connect Nanjing, the provincial capital, with major cities in the province, such as Huai’an, Taizhou, Yancheng, and Lianyungang.

Construction will get underway for the railways connecting Shanghai, Suzhou and Huzhou, Nantong, Suzhou and Jiaxing and the phase II project of the Shanghai-Nantong high-speed rail.

The railways between Lianyungang and Yancheng and Qinghai and Lianyungang will be put into operation within the year.
