A Canadian business delegation led by Kathy Weiss, Director of Canadian Economic Development and Tourism Commission, made a high-tech economic promotion seminar at the Jiangsu headquarter of Mengery Corporation in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, May 22.

Two latest high-tech projects from Durham’s Spark Center, an incubator to promote and support high-tech innovative enterprises in Canada, were presented at the seminar. WeTraq, a credit card sized tracking device on IoT, allows people to monitor the location of their loved ones anytime and anywhere, especially for those suffering from Autism, Dementia and Alzheimer. The other one is an integrated liquid handler system, which greatly improves the efficiency in labs and is currently applying for patent.

Sherry Colbourne, Chairman and CEO of Spark Center, also introduced the favorable “Visa Program”, which supports entrepreneurs to come to Canada and to grow their businesses in Durham. Despite the short operation time for only one year, it has already attracted talents from a number of regions from the world, especially the Middle East and Asia. They have also developed a soft-landing program for foreign start-ups, which ensures companies coming to Durham to properly integrate into the cultural and business environment there.

Having been to China for eight times, Kathy Weiss extended warm invitation to Chinese entrepreneurs. “It was a very fruitful trip. I get very excited and very motivated, and I have big confidence that things are gonna go very well. We would continue to work and help Chinese companies who want to expand to North America to pick our community,” she said.

An Aviation Education Research Industrial Base, jointly developed by Canada China Innovation City Cooperation (CCIC) and Canadian Mountains Aviation Development Group Ltd., was also signed to settle down in CCIC at the seminar. Covering an area of 20 sq feet, the base is to cultivate at least 280 international pilots a year. CCIC, initiated by Menergy Corporation, is a key international innovation platform supported by the governments of both Ontario and Jiangsu.

The seminar was co-hosted by Canadian Economic Development and Tourism Commission and the Jiangsu International Business Association of Canada (JSIBAC), a registered non-profit organization with the mission of promoting trade and economic exchanges between Ontario and Jiangsu province. A dozen of JSIBAC vice chairmen and honorary chairmen were appointed at the same seminar. Durham, one of the fastest developed regions in Ontario, is regarded as the core center of manufacturing and innovative industries in North America.
