The provincial government has released an implementation plan on further expanding and upgrading the potential of online information consumption to sustain the release of domestic demand and bring new changes to our lives. Let’s take a close look.
With the increasing popularity of next-generation information technologies such as big data and mobile Internet, a series of new technologies and products such as mobile payment and shared bicycles have gradually enriched and facilitated our daily lives.
The "Implementation Plan" stated the development goal of expanding and upgrading information consumption in Jiangsu.
By 2020, the province's information consumption will reach 600 billion yuan, with an average annual growth of up to 15%. In the next two years, Gigabit broadband will cover all the households in Jiangsu with a full coverage of the 4G network and commercial use of the 5G network. The province will also materialize high-definition interactive digital TV and mobile Internet of Things.
Smart TVs and home service robots will also enter the homes of ordinary people. according to the "Implementation Plan", Jiangsu will implement the smart home construction plan by focusing on increasing the supply of new consumer electronic products such as smart TVs, smart audio, and home service robots to significantly increase the digitalization of urban and rural residents' lives.
Jiangsu will also explore the "Internet+" health care service model, promote the establishment of "virtual nursing homes", accelerate the establishment of a service system for the protection of the health of elderly population, build a national constitutional big data management and service platform, and build smart stadiums so as to implement an all-round and full process health guidance and management.
In the meantime, the province will speed up the popularization and upgrading of information terminals, and provide affordable smart phones, digital televisions, and other information terminal equipment for low-income people through subsidies or purchasing services.
China will bolster online information consumption in the next few years as part of an effort to stimulate domestic demand and shore up economic growth.
By the end of 2020, the consumption of online information products and services is expected to grow at an annual pace of at least 11 percent to reach 6 trillion yuan or around $900, according to a guideline released by the State Council last August.
"Information technology playing a bigger role in consumption will boost the combined output of related industries to 15 trillion yuan in 2020," the document said.
Online information consumption stood at 3.9 trillion yuan last year, contributing 0.26 percentage point to the country's 6.7-percent year-on-year GDP growth.
It has become one of the most innovative, rapidly-growing and widely-adopted economic spheres that is significant to driving domestic demand, creating jobs and pushing forward industrial upgrades, the document said.
