Starting from Monday, Nanjing residents have another way to pay when taking bus: the Alipay. Reporters learned from the Nanjing public transport group that there are six bus lines have been installed with code scanning equipment, and every bus line will be covered in the city pretty soon.

Compared with the old card reader, the newly replaced card reader has a camera on the top of it. Company staff introduced that this is the area where a mobile phone could swipe the code. How to operate and finish the payment exactly? The working staff gave us a detailed demonstration: click open the App of Alipay, click “More”, click “City Service”, then you’ll see a bus-shaped QR code in the upper left corner, click it open, the QR code will appear.

With your authorization, Alipay transportation service code will have access to your Alipay, then scan the code and complete the payment.

With a field experiment, the reporter found payment with Alipay is very convenient taking just several seconds. After the Alipay Transportation Service is put into use, the original card-swiping is still functioning offering convenience for people who’d like to stick to the traditional way of payment.

The six bus lines covered with Alipay Transportation Service are Bus 1, Bus 207, Bus 503, Bus 669, D4 and D9.

There is no discount when using the Alipay Transportation Service.

Zhu Wenji, Secretary of the First Bus Team of Jiangnan Public Transport Company said, "The original function of the IC card will be reserved. If you don't have changes or IC card, you can pay with your Alipay. The new function will make it easier for you to take a bus.

Over 50 Chinese cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hangzhou have embraced this QR code-based payments. While in Nanjing, six bus lines will be the pilots to have one-month trial operation, with other lines expected to be covered by the end of this year.
