The scientific research vessel “Xiangyanghong 18”, a member of the Qingdao National Marine Science and Technology National Laboratory Fleet, arrived at the deep sea base of the State Oceanic Administration Saturday to mark the completion of the 30-day shared voyage mission.

"Xiangyanghong 18", which sailed to the Mariana Trench, is equipped with 31 sets of "Haiyan-4000" water glider and "Haiyan-10000" meter-level water glider with complete independent intellectual property rights.

During the voyage, a total of 18 dive observations were completed. Among them, three observation profiles with a depth of more than 4,000 meters and a maximum working depth of 8,213 meters have refreshed the latest world record of dive depth and obtained a wealth of valuable deep-sea observation data while passing the sea test successfully.

Experts said that the submerged depth of the water glider has been raised from the current 6,000 meters to the 8,000-meter level, which is a historic step for our country in deep-sea observation and will lead to the development of radiation-free deepwater equipment in China.
