The Suzhou Pingtan Troupe is stepping up the rehearsal of its masterpiece The Cat for the Prince to get prepared for the upcoming exchange performance in Hong Kong. During the rehearsal, the actors made some adjustments in their biting and singing tune so as to make the Hong Kong audience more understandable.
In recent years, traditional cultural dramas represented by Kunqu Opera and Suzhou Pingtan have been gained growing popularity in Hong Kong and Macau. During each visit to Hong Kong and Macao, the Kunqu Opera Theatre and the Pingtan Troupe will visit the campuses to allow local teachers and students to come into close contact with the charm of the traditional theatrical operas.
Sun Ti, head of the Suzhou Pingtan Troupe, was quoted as saying that the performance of the dramas of various theatrical operas in Hong Kong and Macao has enhanced the communication between the Mainland and Hong Kong and Macao and it is a very meaningful thing for this kind of communication between cultures, human-to-human communication, and emotional communication.
As one of the earliest universities in the Mainland to enroll students from Hong Kong and Macau, Nanjing University has more than 100 Hong Kong and Macao students who are currently enrolled.
Xu Lichuan, who is a sophomore this year, is one of them. Coming from Hong Kong to study Chinese, she shared with her fellow students every week her experiences and lessons learned in Nanjing.
