The province's rural work conference held Sunday set a goal for Jiangsu to eliminate black and smelly water in the rural areas in 5 years.
A good ecological environment is the greatest advantage and valuable asset of the countryside. The countryside in Jiangsu has always been known for its beautiful scenery. However, issues such as agricultural non-point source pollution and livestock and poultry breeding pollution still threaten the rural environment, especially the water environment.
Lou Qinjian, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, proposed at the province’s rural work conference that ecology should be highlighted as the lifeline for rural revitalization, and greater efforts should be made to promote protection and governance, to demonstrate the most attractive values of the land of fish and rice and to make Jiangsu a desired place.
According to the province’s rural work conference, Jiangsu will on the one hand strengthen ecological protection and restoration, coordinate the management of mountains, lakes, rivers, forests and grasslands, designate restricted fishing areas for rivers and lakes, protect important water conservation areas, natural wetlands and wildlife resources, and provide ecological compensation and transfer payments for farmers directly responsible for the protection of the ecological areas so that farmers can become the guardians of green space.
On the other hand, Jiangsu will insist on problem orientation and implement green eco-agricultural construction through the promotion of the central government's action plan for rural human settlements and ecological aquaculture, promote rural toilet upgrading so that the black and smelly water in the rural areas will be eliminated in 5 years.
