Health care and social welfare reforms are attracting great public attention. CPPCC members from Jiangsu Province have expressed support for healthcare reform, while lawmakers explained the obstacles to pension reform, and shared their opinions for improving the system.

As one of the leading academic leaders in the countrys hematology field, Wu Depei, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and director of the Department of Hematology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University, has been concerned with the acute shortage of clinical blood supply.

According to Wu, the current territorial management on clinical blood use makes it impossible for cross-regional blood supply while security risks loom large in some regions. In the hospital where Wu works, the number of hematopoietic stem cell transplant surgeries has surged in recent years, which has aggravated the supply of clinical blood.

After deliberation and careful discussion with experts from various fields, Wu Depei submitted a proposal on the establishment of a cross-regional blood supply mechanism.

  Wu Depei, a CPPCC member:

It is necessary to solve the problem of blood shortage in the long run and make top-down design on network construction and deployment mechanism so as to solve the uneven distribution of blood types through a platform and avoid wasting resources.

Qin Shukui, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, a well-known oncologist and vice president of the People's Liberation Army No. 81 Hospital, has been engaged in cancer research for more than 40 years.

As a newly-elected CPPCC member, Qin has proposed on advancing the process of gastric cancer screening policy. He suggested that efforts should be made to screen for cancer prevention and to include gastroenterological screening for high-risk gastric cancer patients in the scope of existing health insurance reimbursement, effectively increase the coverage of gastroscopy screening in high-risk groups, and improve the survival rate of gastric cancer patients in China.

  Qin Shukui, a CPPCC member:

It is necessary to strengthen the publicity of knowledge in public health and the spread of scientific knowledge. For some high-risk cancer groups, it is recommended to give more support in the scope of medical insurance reimbursement, that is, the screening of cancer can be included in the regular items of medical insurance. We hope that we can make a screening on the general public and at the same time, strengthen prevention and control of key populations.
