A rich variety of cultural activities were staged across the province to entertain the holiday-goers who visited exhibitions and watched performances to spend a happy and fulfilling spring festival.
The Nanjing Museum unveiled an exhibition on its two masterpieces the arch of the glazed-tile Pagoda of the Grand Bao’en Temple and the Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove and the Rongqi brick paintings.
The Grand Bao'en Temple was one of the three most famous temples in Nanjing in the early years of the Ming Dynasty. The Glazed Pagoda of Grand Bao'en Temple was the most illustrious building in China's architectural history.
The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove were a group of Chinese scholars, writers, and musicians of the 3rd century CE.
The Nanjing Museum also partnered with the Imperial Palace in Beijing to exhibit the restoration scenes of the 5 main sites of the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City and 279 fine artifacts. The exhibition results from the five-year restoration of the Yangxin Hall of the Forbidden City launched in 2015.
The Nanjing Six Dynasties Museum exhibited precious relics such as celadon, pottery figurines and epitaphs in addition to its collaboration with the Museum of Bozhou in Anhui Province for an exhibition on the tomb bricks rubbings of the family of Cao Cao, a warlord who rose to power towards the end of the Han dynasty and laid the foundation of the state of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period.
Jinhu County held a traditional folk plaza show performances with the demonstration of dragon dances, flower boats, festive lanterns, running donkey and other folk performances that revealed a thick festive atmosphere.
Riddle guessing shows were staged in the intangible cultural heritage workshop in Nantong, the China Kunqu Opera Museum and the Pingtan Ballad Singing Museum in Suzhou. Riddle Guessing was always a tradition associated with China's Lantern Festival, which falls on the fifteenth day of the Chinese New Year or the last official day of the Spring Festival celebration.
