China’s first driverless mini bus based on Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) technology made its test run at the Jiulonoghu Campus of Nanjing-based Southeast University, Feb. 2.

The mini bus, 4 meters in length, 2 meters in width and 2.9 meters in height, can take 12 passengers with a full load weight of 3,000kg. With no steering wheel, the vehicle can drive at both directions.

The electric-powered mini bus can run 14 hours nonstop with a designed speed of 200km/h after seven hours’ charging.

The driverless mini buses can serve as the “capillaries” of a city’s public transportation system and help connect the major transportation hubs and the final destinations like industrial parks and large campuses.

The operation and maintenance team of the driverless mini bus is from Southeast University, which signed a cooperative memo with Nanjing Yangzi State Owned Investment Group on ICV research platform in 2017.

After the driverless mini bus, the research and development team from Southeast University is to conduct more in-depth development in operation management.
