The 1st Int’l Chinese woodblock painting exhibition held in Suzhou

   The 1st International Exhibition of Chinese woodblock painting was held in Suzhou Art and Design Technology Institute on Monday. The organizers invited over 100 researchers, collectors and woodblock craftsmen from home and abroad to exchange experience on protecting woodblock paintings. Take a look!

   The event held in Suzhou is in fact a combination of exhibition and seminar. More than 100 guests from home and abroad have shared their thoughts on woodblock painting preservation and innovation.

   The exhibition displays more than 400 woodblock paintings. Most of the paintings are produced in Taohuawu of Suzhou with a certain portion produced in other areas that are famous for woodblock paintings, such as Yangliuqing County in north China’s Tianjin Municipality, Weifang County of East China’s Shandong Province, and Mianzhu County in Southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

   Woodblock painting can also be found in other parts of world. The organizer also invites researchers and craftsmen from Japan, South Korea and the UK to exchange techniques and innovations of woodblock-creation.

   Taohuawu county is one of the places in China that are famous for woodblock paintings. The paintings are usually considered decorations for the lunar new year. Taohuawu woodblock painting is one of the first national intangible cultural heritages. In 2003, Suzhou Art and Design Technology Institute made Taohuawu Woodblock Painting a major as a way of promoting this valuable traditional art.
