In Shecun Community, Jiangning District of Nanjing, an ancient compound called Pan Ancestral Temple has been standing for over 300 years. Weathering ups and downs, this ancient building was seriously damaged and in urgent need of renovation. Recently, Pan Ancestral Temple has finished a-year-and-a-half repair. It’s scheduled to open to public this October after inner decoration and renovation.

Built during the reign of Shunzhi in Qing Dynasty by a rich merchant, Pan Ancestral Temple carries the style of Huizhou Architecture. Part of the building was ruined during the Taiping Rebellion and then rebuilt. Comprised of three parts, this whole complex takes up a coverage of 750 square meters. Brick-sculptures, woodcuts and stone carving, and well-preserved house on the west side make this house a famous ancient relic. During 1950s, this compound used to be the location for a primary school; during 1980s, the committee of this village had its office here; in 1983, this building was listed as a county-level protected unit.
