The Draft International Standards or DIS was passed in New Delhi, India, as a precursor before China's Internet of Things or IoT standards can be rolled out globally, the Wuxi Internet of Things Research Institute last Wednesday.

The ISO/IEC 30141 IOT reference architecture from China was proposed by the Wuxi IoT Research Institute in September 2013, and mirrors the basic standards from the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China and China Electrics Standardization Institute.

The decision from the DIS also reaffirms China's key role in global IoT industrial development, according to Liu Haitao, president of Wuxi IoT Research Institute and chairman of World Sensing Net Group or WSN.

The accreditation also marks the first time China has taken a leading role in such burgeoning fields and reinforces the nation's influence in IoT as well as the fourth industrial revolution.

Liu and his team from WSN have been carrying out IoT research since 1999, making many achievements in IoT theory, technology, standards and application fields, with many recognized by the International Organization for Standards.

Located in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi is China's first and only national innovative demonstration zone for the IoT industry. China's top IoT event, the World Internet of Things Exposition has been held annually in Wuxi, Jiangsu province since 2016.
