Qingyanyuan Garden in Huai’an city, along with Xuanwu Lake in Nanjing city and Slender West Lake in Yangzhou city, Jiangsu province, was listed in “most beautiful water landmarks in Jiangsu” after an assessment jointly organized by Jiangsu Provincial Water Resources Department, Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Department and Jiangsu Provincial Tourism Bureau, according to a Nov 24 report from Jiangsu media.
As the only well-protected government-managed garden in China’s water control and transport history, Qingyanyuan Garden is surrounded by waterways on all three sides. It also has exhibition halls including an ancient governor’s pavilion, science and technology museum and building showcasing ancient memorials to the throne, which displays not only ancient river governors’ relevant historical data on water control but also Huai’an’s achievements in early and modern-day water-resource construction.
