Jiangsu Province and Cork County of Ireland signed Saturday in Nanjing an agreement on the establishment of friendly provincial-county relations. Governor Wu Zhenlong met with visitors and signed the agreement with Cork County Councilor Declan Hurley.
In order to further consolidate and develop the friendly cooperation between the two countries and promote the friendship between China and Ireland, and through friendly consultations, Jiangsu Province and Cork County have agreed to establish friendly provincial-county relations for the promotion of friendly exchanges and economic exchanges on the basis of equality and mutual benefit in a bid to deepen the exchanges and cooperation in various fields.
Wu Zhenlong extended his warm welcome to Mr Hurley for his visit to Jiangsu and congratulations on the signing of the agreement on the establishment of the friendly provincial-country relations.
The governor noted that with the cordial care and joint efforts of the leaders of both countries, the bilateral relations have maintained a good momentum of development and are a model of friendly coexistence between different national conditions, different cultures and different social systems.
Wu remarked that Jiangsu is one of the most developed provinces in China with superior location, economic prosperity, advanced science and education, profound culture and high level of opening to the outside world.
He also briefed the guests on the province’s recent efforts for the promotion of industrial transformation and upgrading to boost its economic growth.
The governor said Cork County is the largest of its kind in Ireland and the economic and social development of both sides is highly complementary.
Wu remarked that the councilor has fully experienced the high-speed rail during his visit to Jiangsu, hoping that the signing of the agreement will serve as an important opportunity to promote the friendly relations between the two counties like the high-speed train in a fast and smooth, convenient, comfortable and better way to benefit the people of both sides.
Mr. Hurley said Cork County has unique advantages in the fields of information technology, pharmacy, life science and modern agriculture, and will vigorously promote the pragmatic cooperation between the two sides in the fields of science and technology, education and culture, and strive to achieve more fruitful results.
