According to a report newly released from the office of Ministry of Agriculture, 27 villages (counties) are credited as the most charming fishing villages across the nation, and five of them are located in Jiangsu. They are respectively Yanhu Village in Fangxiang County of Yangzhou, Mudundao Village of Suqian, Lvsigang County of Nantong, Xintan Village of Huai’an and Shagou Village of Taizhou.
Fangxiang County of Yangzhou
Located at the west bank of Shaobo Lake, Yanhu Village is home to abundant fishing resources and well-known as the only village in Jiangsu that every household practices in fishing industry. Covering an area of 0.8 square kilometers and having a population of more than 1,600, Yanhu Village is entitled to more than 1,000 boats of different sizes, annual aquatic products of 1,100 tons and output value of 48 million RMB. Having won multiple prizes in past years like Charming Village of China and 3-star Village of Rural Tourism, Yanhu Village was introduced to more people via CCTV News and China Daily this March and April.
Mudundao Village in Suqian City
Seated in Sihong County, Mudundao Village is neighboring Suihe Village, Xuebei Village, Mudun Village and Xuenan Village. It enjoys beautiful natural environment and a long history.
Lvsigang county of Nantong city
Being the largest county in east Jiangsu’s Qidong city, Lvsigang county covers an area of 291.6km^2 with a population of 193, 000. The county’s costal fishery takes 1/3 of the whole province with 535 fishing vessels. The sea view, sea food and local people consist the unique sea culture and fishing culture. Lvsing Fishing song of the county is among the intangible cultural heritages of Jiangsu Province.
Xintan village of Huai’an city
Xintan village is a typical fishery village on Hongze Lake in Huai’an city. It is surrounded by 15km^2 of water. Boats and fishing vessels are their only option to go out. Xintan village has 226 households and 967 villagers. 98% of the villagers rely on crab breeding. The village has 6,700 mu (about 450 hectares) of waters to breed crabs. The per capita income has nearly reached 30,000 RMB (about 4,500 USD)
Shagou county of Taizhou city
Shagou county lies between the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River. It is also one of the ecological demonstration areas. The subtropical humid monsoon climate in the county has the features of maritime climate and continental climate. It has distinctive season boundaries with the average temperature of 15℃. The high annual precipitation (1,016mm) and the low annual sunshine duration (2,620 hours) have led to a rather high humidity (80%) in this area.
