Opera Qiuzi, created and performed by Nanjing University of the Arts, will take to the stage in John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Palace of Fine Arts in October.
Opera Qiuzi by Nanjing University of the Arts was performed in Edinburgh Fringe in August 2015.
Qiuzi, the opera, was created in 1941 with words by Zang Yunyuan and Li Jia and music by Huang Yuanluo in 1939. The premier of Qiuzi was held in 1942. It is the first modern opera in China created in the form of Western opera and has great significance in the history of Chinese opera. Qiuzi was re-imagined and officially presented to Chinese audiences by students and teachers of Nanjing University of the Arts before the China’s National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims in 2014.
