Jiangsu should practice the people-centered development thinking and strive to build the cities across the province into a homeland for all featuring harmonious, orderly, green civilization, innovation and tolerance for a shared future. The remarks were made by Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, during his speech delivered at the provincial working conference on urban governance and service work.
At present, more than 2/3 of the population live in cities where they conduct their primary economic and social activities, Li Qiang said.
In the process of urbanization, the urban life has inevitably encountered a series of problems and it is therefore imperative to give a full play to the resources and power to solve a number of long-standing problems that have caused public nuisance, the CPC provincial chief said.
The participants at the conference said that they will thoroughly comb and analyze the outstanding problems in urban governance and respond to people's concerns with powerful and effective work.
Jiangsu has highlighted the role of people in urban governance in recent years. The province takes the lead in the country in the promotion of cultural and spiritual civilization with eight prefectural cities along the Yangtze and the county level city of Zhangjiagang awarded the title of civilized city.
Li Qiang also remarked that urban governance capacity is one of the important indicators to measure the development level of the new type of urbanization.
To improve the ability and level of urban governance and service work, we need to strengthen and improve the party's leadership of city work, strengthen the rule of law guarantee, pay attention to the particulars and promote reform and innovation, the CPC provincial chief added.
