China, ASEAN to strengthen cooperation on IPR protection

  The 8th Meeting of China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices was held Monday in Suzhou. Wu Zhenglong, governor of Jiangsu, met with the directors Intellectual Property Office of 10 ASEAN countries and addressed the opening ceremony. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, also delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

  This is the first time the Meeting of China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices was held outside Beijing.

  On behalf of Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, Wu Zhenglong extended his congratulations to the opening of the meeting during his meeting and address at the ceremony.

  He also extended his gratitude to the State Intellectual Property Office and guests at home and abroad for their long term support given to Jiangsu’s development.

  In recent years, Jiangsu has attached great importance to intellectual property rights protection by earnestly implementing the gist of the important speeches made by General Secretary Xi Jinping and his new ideas, new thought and new strategy on state governance, the governor said.

  He also noted that Jiangsu has strived for the creation, application, protection, management and service of intellectual property rights protection under the guidance of the State Intellectual Property Office to spearhead the national effort of intellectual property rights protection.

  We will take the opportunity of theMeeting of the Directors of China-ASEAN Intellectual Property Office to further implement the Belt and Road Initiative, learn from the advanced ideas and experiences ofthe ASEAN countries, deepen pragmatic exchanges and cooperation, and strive for a wider range of application and protection in intellectual property rights protection togive a better play to the role of intellectual property rights in economic and social development, the governor said.

  Sheng Changyu remarked that China has maintained a good momentum in intellectual property rights protection and is willing to share the useful experiences of ASEAN countries’ in-depth implementation of the IPR Strategy Action Plan to promote cooperation and exchanges in depth and width and provide more powerful support for scientific and technological innovation and economic prosperity.

  Jiangsu has spearheaded the country’s efforts of IPR protection and we will continue to give the province firm support to promote the development of Jiangsu for greater success, the commissioner said.

  Josephine Santiago, director of The Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines spoke on behalf of the ASEAN countries that ASEAN will further strengthen information communication and experience exchange with China under the framework of the IPR strategic action plan and achieve mutual progress.

  China and ASEAN signed memorandum of understanding on intellectual property cooperation in 2009. The two sides take turns to hold Meeting of China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices every year.
