The 2017 World Internet of Things Exposition (WIOT) kicked off in Wuxi on Sept. 10.

The four-day event is to present the latest development results of the IoT industry in China, through a main conference, ten sub-forums, an exhibition of IoT applications and products, the third IEEE International Smart Cities Conference as well as six related events.

More than 5,300 companies and over 9,000 guests from the IoT industry are to attend this year’s WIOT. A number of Fortune 500 companies and heavyweights from the tech industry like IBM, Microsoft, Alibaba, and Tencent are to catch eyes with their latest research results and products.

"The IoT has become a new battle field for many cutting-edge companies." said Li Qiang, secretary of the CPC Jiangsu Committee, while he delivered a speech at WIOT Wuxi Summit on the morning of Sept. 10, “and Wuxi, as the cradle of China’s IoT industry, has been creating numerous opportunities.”

Located in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta, Wuxi boasts China's first and only national innovative demonstration zone for the IoT industry.

Home to more than 2,000 IoT companies by the end of 2016, the city's IoT industry achieved an estimated value of 205 billion yuan ($30.5 billion). Wuxi has also witnessed over 200 IoT projects come to fruition to date, which have been used to enhance a wide variety of ventures around the world. The industry has grown by at least 20% year-on-year for the last five years, according to Wuxi municipal government.

Hongshan IoT Town, integrating natural water-town sceneries and modern IoT technology, unveiled itself during the exposition, and became a highlight.

A number of scholars and entrepreneurs in the IoT industry were invited to give themed speeches in the summit.
