The People's Hospital of Jiangsu Province has adopted the newest CAR-T cell therapy to successfully treat an American cancer patient.
The 56-year-old patient, named Craig Zeiss, was found to have multiple myeloma in 2014.
He had tried all the new drugs available in the United States, but his illness remained beyond control until reaching an advanced stage.
Finally he came to Nanjing and was included in the CAR-T targeted cell therapy clinical trials at Jiangsu Province People's Hospital.
As luck would have it, he has recovered from the grave illness. The technique can effectively attack tumor cells by sampling patients ' cells and designing targeted drugs.
At present, the clinical trial has successfully cured six patients with satisfactory results.
Craig has become the first foreign patient to be treated and cured with CAR-T cell therapy in China.
