Jiangsu is home to a large amount of natural resources and products, and has been hailed as the mother land of rice and fish.
Thanks to the area’s natural endowments, many geographical indication brands are built in Jiangsu.

Jiangsu is currently home to 257 geographical indication brands, which tops the nation. Its geographical indication industries, including Xuyi crayfish, Nanjing brocade, Dongting Mountain Bilochun tea, Sheyang rice, Zhenjiang aromatic vinegar, Huai’an red pepper and Huai’an rice, have grown to a certain scale with a huge agriculture-related brand value. Moreover, the area’s leading role for local economic development is getting increasingly prominent.
Various cities in Jiangsu have also introduced supporting policies to promote the development of geographical indication products. Huai’an, Yancheng, Zhenjiang, Nantong, Wujin and other cities or counties (districts) have established supporting funds ranging from 50,000 to 200,000 yuan for geographical indication brands.
Some industries also drive the development of tourism and peripheral industries, which not only protects farmers’ interests to the maximum extent, but boosts the development of catering, packaging, processing and other related sectors. For example, Wuzhong district of Suzhou city enhanced the protection and publicity efforts on Dongting Mountain Biluochun tea and held a Dongting Mountain Biluochun Tea Cultural Tourism Festival as well as a series of other activities. These endeavors have pushed forward a joint advancement of the tourism economy and expanded featured approaches to improve farmers’ living standards.
