A total of four new electric buses, featuring the latest technology to cater for wheelchairs, were trialed on the 134th route starting from the Gu Pinggang station, on August 6.
At the station, some elderly people had difficulty in accessing the service. The bus driver, surnamed Li, went to the backdoor, lift the embedded pedal plate ring and a gentle slope would form from the bus to the ground, enabling wheelchairs to access the bus efficiently and safely.
In the glass of the backdoor, there is now a yellow armrest installed, when previously the bus door was a push-pull. "It has now changed into a translational door, and increased by an armrest so the passenger doesn’t nip their hands getting on or off the bus", said Li.
There are three charging ports on every bus, which enables all the buses to be charged at the same time and within 10 minutes.
In addition, chargers were also part of the introduction of recognition technology on the buses, and only drivers can access charging slots with specialty cards.
The trial buses were tailor made to satisfy the characteristics of Nanjing's public transportation system, along with passengers' trip and the route length.
