Phuket Island, Bali Island, Osaka and Tokyo and Paris are among the most favored overseas destinations for Chinese tourists making outbound travels in the first half of this year, according to a report on the consumption of online outbound travel in the first half of 2017 released by tuniu.com, an online leisure travel company in China that offers a large selection of packaged tours.
Thailand, Japan, Singapore, France, Italy, Maldives, Switzerland remained the most popular outbound destination countries.
Some previously less popular destinations has become the new favorites for Chinese tourists.
Monitoring data show that Morocco, Bulgaria, Iceland and Serbia are among the countries that attracted an increasingly large number of Chinese tourists in the first half of this year.
As the number of outbound trips increases, the way Chinese tourists travel also changes, the report shows. A good travel environment allows Chinese tourists to stay in the destination country longer, the report also shows. For short journeys, tourists tend to choose one-week trips while for long journeys, a trip of 12 days or so is much preferred.
In the meantime, more Chinese tourists opt for experience tours and are more inclined to spend lavishly on eating and drinking.
The number of outbound tourists making reservations for local entertainment products surged 62% from a year ago.
More Chinese tourists are showing interest in visiting islands with Mauritius, Fiji and other high-end islands much sought-after in the first six months of this year.
