  • Yangzhou is the home of Chinese zither. Among 800,000 Guzheng sold each year in the world, two-thirds were made in Yangzhou.
  • Leng is an experienced artist of Guzheng making, and has been busy in the workshop all day at an advanced age. Each year, his workshop produces more than 40,000 pieces of Guzheng and Guqin, a seven-stringed plucked instrument in China. In 2009, Leng was awarded “Senior Craft Artist of Jiangsu”. His daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter are all engaged in making or playing Guzheng.
  • As one of the representatives of traditional Chinese musical instruments, Guzheng has a history of more than 2,000 years. In 2016, Guzheng art was selected among the fourth batch provincial intangible cultural heritages in Jiangsu. At present, Yangzhou is applying to make Guzheng an intangible cultural heritage at the national level.
