The Yancheng "Green Energy Port of China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the largest liquefied natural gas reserve base in China, completed its Phase I expansion project of the 9th LNG tank and supporting facilities on December 28, 2023, marking the completion of CNOOC's first fully independently developed and independently designed LNG tank with the world's largest single tank capacity.

Mechanical completion refers to the achievement of a landmark milestone in engineering construction, which involves the completion of the construction, installation, and pre-commissioning of all facilities, process devices, and systems, and passing special inspections for safety, fire protection, lightning protection, grounding, and environmental protection facilities. Through on-site inspection and data review, experts unanimously believed that the mechanical completion conditions have been met.

The No. 9 LNG storage tank is constructed by adopting the core technology of CNOOC's independent intellectual property rights "CGTank", with a diameter of 100.6m, a height of about 65m, and an inner tank volume of 270000 cubic meters, equivalent to 614 standard swimming pools.

During the process of project construction, faced with many challenges such as high technical difficulty and untimely supply of key materials, Yancheng Green Energy Port made efficient efforts to coordinate all participating parties by scientifically formulating work plans, coordinating and allocating construction resources, and reasonably optimizing construction processes so as to have completed the established project construction goals and tasks on schedule.

“The first phase expansion project will construct six 270000 cubic meter LNG storage tanks and supporting facilities with the world's largest single tank capacity, with a total tank capacity of 2.5 million cubic meters. This will greatly enhance the LNG reserve capacity of CNOOC "Green Energy Port" in Yancheng, achieve replenishment and flexible allocation of natural gas resources, serve the emergency supply of natural gas in East China, and further assist the energy structure transformation and natural gas supply in the Yangtze River Delta region while effectively addressing energy supply security and ecological environment protection,” said Yuan Bin, Deputy General Manager of CNOOC "Green Energy Port" in Yancheng.

CNOOC "Green Energy Port" in Yancheng is included in the national key planning project for natural gas production, supply, storage, and sales, as well as the key engineering project for national oil and gas infrastructure, equipping it with the functions of receiving, storing, and exporting liquefied natural gas.

It also integrates multiple functions such as cold energy utilization, gas power generation, and gas hydrogen production, making it a comprehensive green and clean energy supply station and an important hub. It is of great significance for optimizing energy structure, protecting the ecological environment, accelerating industrial transformation in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and helping China meet its goals of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
