Changzhou City of Jiangsu Province officially opened a watchmakers’ house to demonstrate the time-honored craftsmanship on April 24.

Xu Jiabao, who won the highest award in the international group of the 3rd China Timepiece Design Competition, presented his award-winning piece, “The Dragon and Phoenix Double Happiness Clock”. Changzhou citizens visit the museum to experience the culture of watches and appreciate these artworks closely before May 1.

Xu, a 77-year-old watchmaker master, is a native of Changzhou. He is the first alternate watchmaker of the Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants (AHCI) on the Chinese mainland, an inventor in Jiangsu, and also two Guinness record winners. For more than 60 years in his watchmaking career, Xu has always insisted on doing what he aspires to and brought his own creations out of Changzhou to compete in the highest world competitions. In 2016, Xu took his "Dragon Turtle Play Beads Machine," which he spent four years independently in designing and inventing, to the Baselworld Watch Fair in Switzerland, winning praises from international counterparts.

Xu always hopes to rejuvenate Su-style watches and make China among the best watch-makers globally again. Based on this shared vision and under the support of many parties, the "Changzhou Watchmakers Museum" was officially launched in Yonghong Street, Zhonglou District.
